PV wire. Kinds. Peculiarities. Characteristics. Application

The PV wire is a power copper wire with PVC insulation. With its help, various electrical devices are connected, as well as lighting and power networks are laid. It is also called the installation wire. It has high flexibility, which has its own classification, and can withstand different twists and turns. PV is produced only in single-core version.

Varieties

The wire has a fairly wide range, which includes installation and installation wires used in networks with voltages up to 450 V.

  • Wire PV -1 is an installation type of wire that can be operated with a voltage of not more than 450 V AC with a frequency of up to 100 hertz, and not more than 1 kV DC. Permissible current for this wire is not more than 41 amperes. The core material is copper, the number of cores is one, woven from many copper wires.
  • Wire PV-3 is an analogue of the previous wire brand. The only difference is that it has more class 3 flexibility. The remaining parameters are almost the same with the PV-1 wire.
  • BPVL. This modification of the wire is also called the onboard wire, as it was designed specifically for aviation equipment. However, it can also be used to connect fixed-mounted devices. It is capable of withstanding AC voltages up to 250 V at 2 kHz, or up to 0.5 kV DC.
  • APVBbShv . This is a power wire with an aluminum core, used to transport electrical energy in stationary devices with a voltage of up to 1 kV with a frequency of 50 hertz. If there is no letter “A” in front of the wire designation, then the core material is copper.
  • APW . This is an aluminum sample of the installation wire, which has the same technical parameters as the copper wire. Its only difference is that the AR wire is used only for alternating current with a voltage not exceeding 400 V with a frequency of 50 hertz.
  • KSPV wire It is mainly used to connect the power supply of alarm and CCTV systems. This wire model is equipped with two layers of insulation: internal polyethylene, and external polyvinyl chloride. Most often, the color of the insulation of this wire is white.

Device

Installation wires of the PV brand are produced with one core, they have increased flexibility and strength. Due to the multi-wire structure, the PV wire has a high conductive capacity.

The designation of the wire marking is deciphered as follows:

  • « P" - the wire.
  • « IN» - insulation material - polyvinyl chloride.
  • The number indicates the class of flexibility. The larger the number, the more flexible the wire.

The wire device includes the following components:

  • Conductive wire. According to GOST22483-2012, it must be stranded or single-wire copper.
  • The insulation is made of PVC. The coloring of the wire is carried out in one solid color, or with longitudinal colored stripes. For grounding wires, yellow-green colors are used.

Main characteristics

The technical parameters of the PV wire indicate that it is resistant to moisture, steam or condensate. The operating temperature range is -50 +35 degrees, the wire is suitable for laying an electrical network in extreme conditions, in rooms with high humidity.

PV is immune to mechanical stress, mold and fungi. The technical parameters of the wire create its special superiority over other types of cable products. PV does not support combustion, its insulation only melts, but does not burn.

Such wire has become popular in its use as a ground conductor. The outer diameter of the wire is selected according to the rules for the operation of cables. PV is produced in coils up to 100 meters in size.

  • Insulation resistance - not less than 1 Mohm per km.
  • The ambient temperature is from -50 to +35 degrees.
  • Construction length - not less than 100 m.
  • Permissible bending radius - at least 10 outer diameters of the wire.
  • Rated voltage 450 V AC, 1000 V DC.
  • Permissible installation temperature - not lower than -15 degrees.
  • Service life - 15 years.
  • Warranty period - 2 years.
  • Permissible air humidity at a temperature of +35 degrees - 100%.

Outer diameter, insulation resistance and weight of 1 km wire

The technical data of the wire indicate that its main distinguishing feature from other samples is the insulation material. Polyvinyl chloride has sufficient strength, includes a special component with a specific smell that repels rodents.

The main manufacturers of this wire are domestic enterprises, such as TD Alliance Cable, Spetskabel, the Moskabelmet plant in Moscow.

Advantages

  • The installation PV has the smallest linear expansion.
  • PVC insulation is self-extinguishing.
  • It is steady against influence of the microorganisms which are negatively influencing quality of a wire.
  • High mechanical strength, which expands the scope of its application.
  • The wire has double insulation, it is used in hazardous areas of chemical production, it is resistant to destructive and aggressive factors: mold, corrosion, etc.
  • It has a high throughput of electric current, while it practically does not heat up.
  • Additional insulation of the wire in the form of a corrugated pipe helps to increase the strength of the conducted current.
  • In winter conditions, such a wire can be used to warm a frozen water pipe, using technologies specially developed for this.

Application

The scope of use of the PV wire is quite wide, due to the wide range of cross-sectional areas of the conductors, and the available technical parameters. It is used in almost all areas of production, in domestic conditions.

Areas of use. The PV wire can be divided into the following areas:

  • Electrical wiring in atmospheric conditions, indoors.
  • Non-residential, residential, industrial premises.
  • Communication systems.

Maximum electrical safety is provided by a double layer of insulating material, which is made of advanced special polyvinyl chloride, which does not heat up from the action of electric current. Due to such unique properties, it is used in production in high voltage devices.

The old brand of PuGV wire and the new one - PV, in fact, these are the same wires. Their differences are in different editions of the standards, and in difference to one class of flexibility of the PuGV wire. The rest of the characteristics remained unchanged.

There are no strict restrictions on the use of this wire. It can be used both for connecting electrical installations and for lighting devices, machine tools, mechanisms and various units.

PV is allowed to be laid in plastic or metal pipes, trays, special channels located in the structure of buildings, inside machine tools and various devices.

When purchasing a wire in a distribution network, the packaging of the wire coil must have a tag indicating the necessary designations: wire length, coil weight, manufacturer and production date.
