In certain circles it is rumored that in 1991, a flight capsule splashed down in the Atlantic, inside which was an astronaut from the United States, Charles Gibson. The most interesting thing is that he allegedly flew into space in 1963.
Gibson flew away on the Gemini spacecraft in 1963. After entering orbit, communication with him was lost. NASA employees considered him missing. Moreover, the astronaut's ship soon disappeared from radar, which means he was not in orbit. But when the descended capsule was opened in 1991, it turned out that the person in it was alive! How was he able to live for more than 20 years on a primitive spacecraft, the supplies of which were designed for only 6 months?
It is known that after returning to his home planet, the astronaut underwent a medical examination and other necessary procedures. His capsule and himself were carefully studied by specialists from various fields of science. Despite this, it was never possible to find out what happened to Gibson, and how he managed to survive without food or water for 28 years in space.
NASA, in turn, issued a terse and odd statement:
Gibson is feeling great. Unfortunately, this only applies to his physical condition, since he remains completely disoriented. He doesn't realize how long he's actually been away from Earth. His words remain unintelligible; he cannot string them together into sentences. When we asked him where he had been for so many years, he answered only one thing - never and never again!
There is another similar case in history
In 1973, John Smith was sent into Earth orbit on a secret mission. His ship was disguised as an ordinary satellite. Initially, John's flight was normal, but it did not last long - only three days. Then his ship lost orientation, and the system responsible for maneuvering also failed.
Later it turned out that the astronaut fell into the zone of “radiation belts”, which have a detrimental effect not only on technology, but also on all living things. Therefore, the Pentagon, under whose leadership Smith’s flight project was, considered the astronaut dead. The leadership of NASA tried to save the astronaut, but it was too late - they lost contact with his ship.
For some time, most of NASA (except for those who did not know about the incident) was in a state of shock for several days, after which it strictly forbade all eyewitnesses to talk about the incident. They decided to forget him as quickly as possible, along with the pilot, who seemed to have died during an unsuccessful test of a new spacecraft.
At the beginning of 2001, an amateur astronomer noticed a strange object in orbit. He immediately reported his discovery to a certain service, after which rumors about it quickly reached NASA. After NASA sent radars towards the object, it turned out that it was Smith's ship, which went missing back in 1973. The ship gradually lost altitude, but it was not possible to establish communication with it.
Having waited until the ship had descended to a certain height, the above-mentioned agency decided to send a catcher after it, and then lower it to Earth. After opening the ship, it turned out that the half-dead astronaut Smith was on board. He is unconscious because he flew in space at ultra-low temperatures, which were approaching absolute zero.
When the temperature inside the apparatus began to slowly increase, the hero-astronaut began to show barely noticeable signs that he was alive. Cryomedicine specialists were immediately called in and quickly resuscitated Smith. After this, the astronaut was provided with all the necessary medical care. After a full examination, it turned out that it was not John Smith who was delivered to his home planet, but some other human being in his body.
The first to notice the difference were doctors who checked the data in the astronaut’s medical record with the new ones they received after the examination. The real Smith suffered a broken rib as a child, the scars of which remain for life. The new Smith had no such marks. The doctors also knew that the astronaut did not have any special knowledge of higher mathematics. The new Smith was a genius at this science: adding multi-digit numbers in various ways without a calculator and all that kind of stuff. The heart of the arriving astronaut turned out to be displaced - located on the right side. Smith didn't have this before.
Each astronaut receives a notebook before departure, which he uses as a diary. Of their 100 sheets, only half remained in Smith’s notebook, and it was covered with incomprehensible tiny symbols of unknown origin.
After some time, the astronaut disappeared without a trace. NASA and intelligence officials claimed that he was under 24-hour security, so this could not have happened to him. But, to their surprise, there was no trace left of the astronaut. Adherents of the conspiracy theory then said that the government was deliberately hiding Smith, not wanting to reveal his secret to ordinary people.
What could have happened?
Ufologists believe that the same thing happened to both astronauts - they were exposed to a time whirlpool. We and everything that surrounds us exist in time and space. Regarding the first concept (time), we know little. To understand what happened to Smith and Gibson, you have to think of time as a river. We normally exist in this flow, in which whirlpools and other anomalies sometimes occur. When we fall into a whirlpool, we are pulled into the depths of the river-time. For us at this moment time stops, but on the surface outside the whirlpool it continues to flow at the previous speed. At a certain moment, we may be thrown out of the whirlpool, after which we will again find ourselves on calm waters - in our time.
"Angelic" visions
In 1985, the USSR space research program was particularly successful. They tried not to talk about various difficulties and inexplicable cases at all, so as not to undermine the trust of ordinary people in the authorities. It was then that something special and anomalous happened at the Salyut7 orbital station.
Then the Salyut7 crew consisted of three people: O. Atkov, V. Solovyov and L. Kizim. It was day 155 of their flight. They, as usual, were engaged in research activities - taking readings from on-board instruments, experimenting and observing various phenomena. Suddenly, the room they were in was filled with bright orange light. The astronauts thought that a fire or some other disaster had occurred at the station, but it turned out that this light came from outside. Moreover, he made his way through the opaque walls of the station. The shocked astronauts rushed to the window and were even more shocked after what they saw. In outer space, absolutely empty and cold, 7 tall figures stood in front of the station. These creatures had human faces, were incredibly beautiful, and behind their backs there was transparent matter, which the astronauts compared to the wings of angels.
By the way, all the astronauts listed earlier underwent mental tests and all kinds of medical tests before the flight. They were not found to have any mental or other abnormalities. They also did not take drugs.
The “Angels” accompanied the station for ten minutes, after which they maneuvered around it and disappeared without a trace. The astronauts immediately reported what they saw to the Control Center. The center's employees demanded a detailed report, and after receiving it, they immediately classified the case. The astronauts were forced to undergo a second medical examination, but it did not show that they were mentally ill. Therefore, the official version of what happened was a group hallucination.
On the 167th day of the flight, something strange happened. It was then that three more cosmonauts joined the crew: S. Savitskaya, I. Volk, V. Dzhanibekov. On the same day, mysterious creatures approached the station again. As in the previous case, there were 7 of them. They all glowed brightly and, as it seemed to the astronauts, were smiling. Now the control center could not so easily attribute everything to a mass hallucination, since the “angels” were seen by 6 people at once, and three of them had just arrived at the station.
It should be noted that “angels” in space were once recorded by the Hubble telescope. Before all these photographs were classified and hidden, journalists managed to see 7 distinct figures flying in the same direction.
Space still remains unknown: the more we dive into its secrets, the more questions arise.
Origin of the Universe
This is a riddle of riddles that humanity will struggle with for a long time to come. One of the very first scientific hypotheses – the “Big Bang” theory – was put forward by the Soviet geophysicist A. A. Friedman in 1922, but today it is the most popular in explaining the origin of the Universe.

Scientists are interested in what happened before the Big Bang. According to one hypothesis - nothing, according to the other - everything: the Big Bang is just the next stage in an endless cycle of expansion and contraction of space.
However, the Big Bang theory also has vulnerabilities. According to some physicists, the expansion of the Universe after the Big Bang would be accompanied by a chaotic distribution of matter, but on the contrary, it is ordered.
Boundaries of the Universe
The universe is constantly growing, and this is an established fact. Back in 1924, American astronomer Edwin Hubble discovered vague nebulae using a 100-inch telescope. These were galaxies just like ours. A few years later, he proved that galaxies are moving away from each other, obeying a certain pattern: the further away the galaxy, the faster it moves.
With the help of powerful modern telescopes, astronomers, plunging into the depths of the Universe, simultaneously take us back to the past - to the era of the formation of galaxies.
Based on the light coming from the distant reaches of the Universe, astronomers calculated its age - about 13.7 billion years. The size of our Milky Way galaxy was also determined - about 100 thousand light years and the diameter of the entire Universe - 156 billion light years.
However, American astrophysicist Neil Cornish draws attention to a paradox: if the movement of galaxies continues to accelerate uniformly, then over time their speed will exceed the speed of light. In his opinion, in the future it will no longer be possible to “see so many galaxies” because a superluminal signal is impossible.
What is beyond the designated boundaries of the Universe? There is no answer to this question yet.
Black holes
Despite the fact that the existence of black holes was known even before the creation of Einstein's theory of relativity, evidence of their presence in space was obtained relatively recently.
The black hole itself cannot be seen, but astrophysicists have paid attention to the movement of interstellar gas in the center of each galaxy, including ours. The behavior of the substance allowed scientists to understand that the object attracting it has “monstrous” gravity.
The power of a black hole is so great that the space-time surrounding it simply collapses. Any object, including light, falling beyond the so-called “event horizon” is forever drawn into a black hole.
At the center of the Milky Way, according to scientists, there is one of the most massive black holes - millions of times heavier than our Sun.
British physicist Stephen Hawking suggested that there are also ultra-small black holes in the Universe, which can be compared to the mass of a mountain compacted to the size of a proton. Perhaps the study of this phenomenon will be accessible to science.
Supernova
When a star dies, it illuminates outer space with a bright flash, capable of surpassing the glow of the galaxy in power. This is a supernova.
Despite the fact that, according to astronomers, supernovae occur regularly, science has complete data only from outbreaks recorded in 1572 by Tycho Brahe and in 1604 by Johannes Kepler.
According to scientists, the duration of the maximum brightness of a supernova is about two Earth days, but the consequences of the explosion are observed after millennia. Thus, it is believed that one of the most amazing sights in the Universe - the Crab Nebula - is the product of a supernova.
The theory of supernovae is still far from complete, but science already claims that this phenomenon can occur both during gravitational collapse and during a thermonuclear explosion. Some astronomers hypothesize that the chemical composition of supernovae is the building material of galaxies.
Space time
Time is a relative value. Einstein believed that if one of the twin brothers was sent into space at the speed of light, then when he returned he would be much younger than his brother who remained on Earth. The “twin paradox” is explained by the theory that the faster a person moves in space, the slower his time flows.
However, there is another theory: the stronger gravity, the more time slows down. According to it, time on the surface of the Earth will flow slower than in orbit. This theory is also confirmed by the clocks installed on the GPS spacecraft, which on average are ahead of Earth time by 38,700 ns/day.
However, researchers claim that over a six-month stay in orbit, cosmonauts, on the contrary, gain about 0.007 seconds. It all depends on the speed of the spacecraft. To test the theory of relativity in practice.
Kuiper Belt
The asteroid belt (Kuiper belt) discovered at the end of the 20th century beyond the orbit of Neptune changed the usual picture of the Solar system. In particular, he predetermined the fate of Pluto, which migrated from the family of planets to the cohort of planetoids.
Some of the gases that ended up in the most distant and coldest region during the formation of the Solar System turned into ice, forming many planetoids. Now there are more than 10,000 of them.

Habitable Worlds

A relatively young science, astrobiology, is involved in assessing the habitability of planets based on their similarity to Earth. So far, the main efforts of astrobiologists are aimed at the planets of the solar system, but the results of their research are not comforting for those who hope to find organic life near the Earth.
In particular, scientists prove that there is no and could not be life on Mars, since the planet’s gravity is too low to maintain a sufficiently dense atmosphere.
Moreover, the interiors of planets such as Mars cool rapidly, resulting in the cessation of geological activity that supports organic life.
Scientists' only hope is exoplanets of other star systems, where conditions may be comparable to those on Earth. For these purposes, the Kepler spacecraft was launched in 2009, which over several years of operation discovered more than 1000 candidates for habitable planets. The size of 68 planets turned out to be the same as that of the Earth, but the nearest one is at least 500 light years away. So the search for life in such distant worlds is a matter of the not very near future.
American astronomers have recorded an unusual phenomenon: in a very short period of time, a ring of dust disappeared around a star close to the solar system. The event occurred 450 light years from Earth in the direction of the constellation Centaurus.
This disappearance occurred very quickly even on Earth time scales, much less on an astronomical scale, says study co-author Benjamin Zuckerman, a professor of physics and astronomy at the University of California.
The dust disk, which inexplicably disappeared, had an impressive size: on the scale of the solar system, it would stretch from the Sun to Mercury, the University of California website reports the words of scientists. And the star TYC 8241 2652, around which there was a ring of dust, turned out to be very similar to our star. The only difference is that around TYC 8241 2652, according to scientists, planet formation processes are still underway.
A ring of particles around the star has existed since at least 1983, when the first infrared images of TYC 8241 2652 were taken. In 2009, the dust disk dimmed, and later stopped being replenished with new solid particles and their emissions into space stopped.
The dust was noticeable in the infrared because it absorbed radiation from a nearby star and re-emited it. An image taken on May 1 this year by the Gemini telescope showed that the warm dust particles around the star had completely disappeared in two and a half years.
Scientists speculate that gas from the same collision that created the dust may have collected and transported the solid particles to the star, where they were destroyed by heat. However, none of the assumptions about what happened around TYC 8241 2652 are convincing enough, said Karl Melis, head of the study.
Dust regions also exist in the Solar System in the asteroid belt between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, as well as beyond the orbit of Neptune. Almost 30 years ago, an infrared telescope discovered the existence of dust disks around many stars, but this was the first time researchers had encountered the fact of their sudden disappearance.
Unexplained phenomena on Earth and in space
Every year, scientists are increasingly faced with phenomena on our planet that they cannot explain. In the USA, near the city of Santa Cruz, there is one of the most mysterious places on our planet - the Preiser's zone. It occupies only a few hundred square meters, but scientists believe that this is an anomalous zone. After all, the laws of physics do not apply here. So, for example, people of the same height standing on a completely flat surface will appear taller to one and shorter to the other. The anomalous zone is to blame. Researchers discovered it back in 1940. But after 70 years of studying this place, they could not understand why this was happening. In the center of the anomalous zone, George Preiser built a house in the early 40s of the last century. However, just a few years after construction, the house tilted. Although this shouldn't have happened. After all, it was built in compliance with all the rules. It stands on a strong foundation, all angles inside the house are 90 degrees, and the two sides of its roof are absolutely symmetrical to each other.
Astronomers saw an inexplicable phenomenon in space
A team of astronomers at the European Southern Observatory, led by Anthony Boccaletti, discovered mysterious fast-moving wave-like structures in the dust disk around one of the stars in the constellation AU Microscopii, 32 light-years from Earth.
Astronomers were able to record a unique phenomenon thanks to the new high-contrast receiver SPHERE, installed on the VLT telescope in 2014.
Initially, the team intended to find irregularities in the protoplanetary disk surrounding the AU Microscopii stars that would indicate the process of planet formation. However, when examining the images, it turned out that the disk contained objects that resembled ripples in water. These objects move at a speed of 40 thousand kilometers per hour.
When comparing the resulting images with images taken by the Hubble Space Telescope in 2010-2011, the unusual phenomenon was confirmed.
Scientists have found that the “ripples” could not have arisen in an ordinary protoplanetary nebula. They are sure that the waves are driven by an unknown factor. However, the reasons for the discovered phenomenon are not yet clear to astronomers, Nature reports.
Researchers suggested that the cause of the cosmic phenomenon was the collision of two massive asteroids, which created a large amount of dust. This dust moves in a spiral due to gravitational instabilities of the system.
At the same time, the scientific community is leaning toward the theory put forward by astrophysicist Glen Schneider that the phenomenon is caused by regular flares on the star: “AU Mic is a very active star. It emits strong, unpredictable flashes. One of these flares could have caused a clearing of circumstellar matter on one of the planets around the star, which now moves through the disk on the flare wave.”
Now a group of scientists intends to continue observing the mysterious waves using the largest radio telescope ALMA in Chile.

And just recently, astronomers outside the solar system for the first time discovered cosmic twin planemos - two mysterious objects located nearby..
The Planemo twins orbit each other, not the star. Researchers believe that both objects arose about a million years ago. The distance between the planemos is six times greater than the distance between the Sun and Pluto, and they are about 400 light years away from Earth.
According to scientists, the existence of such planemos casts doubt on modern theories of the origin of planets and stars. But new theories have not yet been invented, and space has not yet revealed its mysteries...
