Master class on making a volumetric architectural composition from Doric columns.

Author: Shamsutdinov Ramil Farukovich, teacher of fine arts MBOU SOSH № 69.75, teacher of additional education MBOU DOD TsDTT № 1, Ulyanovsk.
Description: This master class is intended for teachers of fine arts, art, teachers of additional education, students of the design and architecture department, parents and creative people.
Goals: development of constructive skills and abilities; training in prototyping of architectural objects.
Tasks:
- to teach the production of drawings, sweeps and assembly of architectural objects;
-to develop constructive skills and interest in the profession of an architect, constructor.
-to cultivate neatness, a sense of collectivism.

Architectural order (Latin ordo - order, order) is a type of architectural composition that uses certain elements and is subject to a certain architectural and style processing. It is the embodiment of a post-and-beam system, tectonically consisting of vertical (columns, pilasters) and horizontal (entablature) elements. Appeared in Ancient Greece. The name of the order comes from the Latin "ordo" - system, order, was first used by the theorist of architecture of the second half of the 1st century BC. e. Vitruvius, author of the treatise "Ten Books on Architecture".
There are five classical orders: Doric, Ionic and Corinthian originated in ancient Greece, Tuscan and composite - in ancient Rome. Corinthian in ancient Greece was almost never used and became widespread in ancient Rome.
Researchers also call other canons in the style solution of architecture orders, for example, a giant order (columns across several floors) or a loose order (the columns in front of the facade hold only segments of the entablature, but do not bear its entire load).
Column of the Doric order.

For our composition you will need:
1. A-3 paper or Whatman paper
2.Rule
3.Pencil
4.Scissors
5 stationery knife
6 brush
7.Glue

Our work will consist of several stages.
The first stage is the preparation of the drawing.
The second stage is making a sweep.
The third is gluing the resulting scan and obtaining a volumetric image.
The fourth is the assembly of the entire volumetric architectural composition from the columns of the Doric order.
The base of the composition.
I. Preparation of drawings.
I.1. Drawing of the base of the composition.

I.2. Drawings of the main column with flutes
A) Drawing of 1 part of the central column.

B) Drawing of the base of the central column.

C) Drawing of the upper base of the central column.

Drawing of the base (base) of the side columns.

Column trunk drawing.

Column capital drawing.
II. The second stage is the production of the sweep.

Let's start cutting the sweep using scissors.

It is necessary to cut exactly along the contour in order to avoid distortions in the future.

Cut out first from one side

Then on the other, leaving the flaps for gluing.

A contoured sweep with valves looks like this:

Cutting all sweeps is done in the same way.

Cut out scan of the column capital.

Cut the circle exactly along the contour.

To complete the composition, cut out four strips 40 mm wide and 75 mm long.

III.Third - sizing the resulting scan and obtaining a volumetric image.

In order to make it convenient to bend the scan, we apply a ruler to the drawing line and go through it with the tip of a clerical knife.

Using a ruler, bend first inward and then outward.

After the fold work has been done, the flat pattern will look like this.

Gently apply glue to the valves and proceed to gluing.

After gluing the lower base, apply glue to the valves of the upper base and glue it together.

The glued base box will look like this.
The reamer is cut along the contour and glued exactly as shown in the photo. When gluing, you can use pencils so that the bumps have a pronounced character and are equally beautiful.

The parts are glued as shown in the photo.

After receiving the base for the column, glue it so that you get a round column with grooves.

Column ready to glue with flutes.

The glued column on top will look like this.

Column side view.

After that, in the upper part along the division lines, we cut and bend the successively obtained parts inward.

The folded parts of the column will serve as flaps for gluing the column cover.

Using a brush, apply glue to the valves of the upper part of the column and glue the cut out circle. We try to keep the column rounded.

This is how a column with a glued lid will look like.

We take the resulting sweeps with both hands and carefully draw from top to bottom at the edge of the table. This operation is done in order to facilitate the work of forming smooth columns. The paper processed in this way easily and effortlessly assumes the desired rounded column shape.

The preliminary work we have done will help you easily cope with the formation of a rounded column shape.

Gently apply the glue with a brush and glue it together.

The glued column (trunk) looks like this.

Glue 4 capitals in the same way.

A glued capital looks like this.

Finished parts for assembling side columns: capital, trunk, base.

First, we glue the trunk (column) to the base.

Then a small capital.
IV. The fourth is the assembly of the entire volumetric architectural composition from the columns of the Doric order.

View of the base of the composition and the column with flutes.

Apply glue to the lower base of the column with a brush and glue it carefully. To ensure the strength of the base to be glued, it can be pre-treated with sandpaper.

The finished column is carefully glued to the base of the architectural composition.

This is how the column will look on the basis of the composition after gluing.

After completing the work with the columns, we proceed to the assembly of the entire architectural composition. To do this, apply glue to the lower base of the column base and glue it to the base of the model.

We glue the columns successively onto the base, leaving the same distance from the edges and from the central column with flutes.

It is located, of course, in Rome, in a hollow between three hills.

The building is really impressive.

Its construction was started in 72 AD by the emperor Vespasian Flavius, and finished in 80 by the emperor Titus, also from the Flavians, therefore the second name of the Colosseum sounds like the Flavian Amphitheater. It was built in the place where there used to be a pond that belonged to the Golden House of Nero. Thus, Vespasian handed over to the people the lands that had previously belonged to Nero.
It is now one of the largest tourist attractions in Rome.

The second half of November, when we were there, this is the low season, there are relatively few tourists, it is warm outside, 12-15 degrees, the ticket was bought quickly. We pass inside.
Aisles between tiers

Inside the walls of the Colosseum, there are wide passages and a staircase to the top. A museum is organized here, which displays exhibits from different eras, the layout of the Colosseum in its original form. There is such a bust of Nero:

We are in the middle tier.

In general, the Colosseum was built as a place for entertainment for the inhabitants of Rome and visitors, gladiator fights, animal persecution and even sea battles were held here, and only in 405 the Roman emperor Honorius banned gladiatorial fights as not corresponding to the spirit of Christianity.
In the Middle Ages, it began to serve as a fortress for noble Roman families, and later Emperor Henry VII presented it to the Roman Senate and people.

The arena of the Colosseum, under which there are basements, built later by the emperor Domitian, has now been partially restored and consists of a wooden flooring in about a third of the arena's area, the rest is free so that you can see the basements.

We go down to the lower tier.

These bricks are more than one and a half thousand years old.

We go upstairs, admire the views below:

It's time to go. Another look at the Amphitheater:

Arabs are walking around, selling all sorts of trifles, very active, they do not want to understand in any way that we are not going to buy anything :). It's already evening, the people are slowly leaving.
